Designer babies

Newsweek has a fascinating article on new technologies that allow you to pre-determine the sex of your baby.

Now, aside from the that-takes-all-the-fun-out-of-it aspect, there are a couple of quotes that bother me:

As for MicroSort, of the more than 500 pregnancies achieved so far, four have been terminated … because of “non-desired gender,” says Blauer.

This should bother even people who are for abortion, because it is a means of gender discrimination.

“The more it’s done,” she says, “the less you’re going to see concerns.”

Repetition doesn’t make something right – there’s more sex, violence and foul language on TV now, largely through a matter of repetition until it becomes the norm. Does that make it okay?

Scary – the whole biotech field is an unknown frontier. Christians will have a big challenge responding to the arguments and developments that will come.
