Funtinal friday
Fontinal (adj): growing near springs. Funtinal (adj): springy and fun. A short list this week, which means each one is extra-special:
Science:
- Auto-appendectomy – In the spring of 1961, with no other medical professional around, a Russian surgeon stationed at the South Pole was forced to perform an appendectomy on himself.
Media:
- Tree house – A unique and unusual house, designed to be at the level of the surrounding tree canopy, it’s organic lines seem to blend with the surrounding forest.
- Media use – A new study shows that young people are spending even more time on net-connected devices. The study was surprising to the authors, since after their last study, they had supposed that teens’ lives were already media-saturated.
- iPod gaming – Did you or someone you know recently get one of Apple’s new multi-media gizmos? Maybe you’re looking for something more to do with it than check your calendar and the weather… well, tech blog Gizmodo has collected the top 53 iPhone/iPod Touch games in one place. Most have a free preview option so you can try before you purchase the full version.
Miscellaneous:
- Food creations – A collection of interesting food creations, including a zucchini skeleton and a Daniel Craig popsicle.
- Built-in Smartboard – A new generation of projectors include the ability to recognise the position of special markers on any surface, potentially transforming any wall into an interactive whiteboard, measuring up to 102″ corner-to-corner for not much more than the cost of a projector alone.
Have a great weekend, and remember, today is International Answer Your Cat’s Question Day, a day when you consider what your cat must be pondering when s/he just looks at you quizzically.
