SBG: An epiphany

So I’ll be the first to admit that because of my wide variety of classes taught, my marking has been somewhat schizophrenic.  I don’t generally mark the same way in CPT as I do in History, French or Science, and each class lends itself to specific ways of gathering marks.  Readers will note that I [...]

Eight years old
June 11, 2010 – 12:16 am | No Comment

When I started this blog in 2002, it was with the intention of it becoming a repository of links to stories I was interested in.  It has evolved over the past eight years to become that and much else.  While my weekly links roundups serve much the same purpose as the original story file, the [...]

Portfolio

I’ve been meaning for a while to update my portfolio site, ianhecht.com.  While it was an okay way of showing websites that I’d created, it wasn’t especially fantastic-looking and didn’t list much else that I worked on.  I like the look of the Flavors.me sites, but they can only show things that have some kind [...]

A year of visitors

A year of visitors

I signed up for ClustrMaps last year at this time – it’s the service that generates the little red-spotted map at the botton-right of the page.  Basically, it uses the geographic data from each visitor’s electronic trail to mark a world map of where they’re surfing from.  The result is this:

As the counter at the [...]

Site issues
December 6, 2009 – 5:30 pm | No Comment

Sorry to anyone who’s had troubles accessing the site recently – my host was having issues with my site. Apparently, one of the plugins for the blog had generated in excess of 6000 database entries in one table alone, which was making the queries extremely slow and CPU intensive. Because I’m on shared [...]

Meta-diculous
October 23, 2009 – 12:24 am | No Comment

I posted some of my fiction on a page on this site, but since I don’t know how many people read this on RSS, I’m going to post about a page.  My blog will then tweet about the post about the page.  Yeesh!
Anyway, if you’re interested in reading what I’ve wrought, you can check it [...]

May 27, 2009 – 4:02 pm | No Comment

Thought you ought to know… the blog’s anniversary is coming up mid-June, but we pass another landmark today – 2,000 posts!  Yay us!  Also, we have passed the 2,000 comment mark (we actually would have crossed a long while back if I had been able to import the comments from the 1st incarnation of the [...]

Seven things you never wanted to know about me

I’ve been tagged by @plainenglish for the “7 things you might not know about me” meme. I’m always down for a good meme, so here we go!  The rules:
- Link your original tagger(s), and list these rules on your blog.
- Share seven facts about yourself in the post – some random, some weird.
- Tag seven [...]

Too much DIY?

Too much DIY?

I don’t have a Flickr account.  I haven’t had a Blogger account in 4 years.  I just got onto Diigo, Google Reader and Twitter this year.  And yet, I blog, I have an online gallery of photos, I had a personal repository of bookmarks.  In the past I’ve hosted forums, statistics databases and other [...]

Marturia in 2008
December 24, 2008 – 5:20 pm | No Comment

For the third year running, I’m going back over the first post of every month to see a smattering of what we’ve talked about over the last year.  For every month, you get the post title and the first sentence or two.  Also, the author, if it wasn’t me.

Search results
September 16, 2008 – 12:00 pm | No Comment

As I’ve mentioned previously, I have been attempting to “massage” the search listings on Google for Ian Hecht and Marturia (although, to be honest, we’ve been the top result for marturia for a while without me having to do anything about it).  Occasionally, I check the referrer logs to see what else brings people to [...]

Blogging Forecast – low POP
July 1, 2008 – 10:44 am | 2 Comments

For at least the next week or so, the possibility of posting will be quite curtailed – my internet is down until at least Saturday, so if you don’t hear from me, that’s why…
